Reigning Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka ended the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and picked up a historic eleven million pounds in prize money.
She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a extended hiatus following the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
