The disputed, US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) announces it is winding down its aid operations in the Palestinian territory, following nearly half a year.

The foundation had previously halted its multiple aid distribution centers in Gaza subsequent to the truce agreement between Hamas and Israel was implemented in recent weeks.

The GHF aimed to circumvent United Nations channels as the main supplier of aid to Gaza's population.

International relief agencies refused to co-operate with its methodology, saying it was questionable and hazardous.

Many residents were lost their lives while seeking food amid chaotic scenes near the foundation's locations, mainly through Israeli military action, based on UN documentation.

Israel said its troops fired cautionary rounds.

Program Termination

The organization declared on Monday that it was terminating work now because of the "successful completion of its crisis response", with a aggregate of 3 million parcels containing the amounting to in excess of 187 million sustenance units provided to residents.

The GHF's executive director, Jon Acree, also said the United States-operated coordination body - which has been set up to help execute US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan - would be "adopting and expanding the system the foundation tested".

"The organization's system, in which Hamas could no longer loot and profit from stealing aid, was significantly influential in getting Hamas to the table and securing a halt in hostilities."

Feedback and Statements

Hamas - which denies stealing aid - supported the shutdown of the GHF, according to reports.

A representative of said the foundation should be made responsible for the harm it caused to Palestinians.

"We call upon all international human rights organisations to guarantee that responsibility is assigned after leading to casualties and wounds of thousands of Gazans and concealing the nutritional restriction approach employed by the Israeli authorities."

Foundation History

The GHF began operations in Gaza on late May, a week after the Israeli government had moderately reduced a comprehensive closure on relief and commercial goods to Gaza that continued for 77 days and led to substantial deficiencies of essential supplies.

Three months later, a food crisis was announced in the Gaza metropolitan area.

The organization's sustenance provision locations in various parts of the Palestinian territory were managed by US private security contractors and located inside regions under Israeli military authority.

Humanitarian Concerns

The UN and its partners claimed the system contravened the fundamental humanitarian principles of neutrality, impartiality and independence, and that channelling desperate people into armed forces regions was fundamentally dangerous.

International human rights monitoring body reported it tracked the deaths of a minimum of 859 residents seeking food in the vicinity of GHF sites between late May through end of July.

An additional 514 individuals were fatally wounded around the paths taken by United Nations and additional relief shipments, it further stated.

The greater part of these people were killed by the Israel's armed forces, as per the organization's documentation.

Conflicting Accounts

Israel's armed services claimed its forces had released alerting fire at individuals who came near them in a "threatening" manner.

The organization declared there were no shooting events at the aid sites and claimed the international organization of using "untrue and confusing" figures from the Gazan medical department controlled by militant factions.

Future Implications

The organization's continuation had been indefinite since militant groups and the Israeli government approved a truce agreement to carry out the initial stage of Trump's peace plan.

It said aid distribution would take place "absent meddling from the both sides through the international bodies and their affiliates, and the humanitarian medical organization, in combination with other global organizations not linked whatsoever" with militant groups and the Israeli government.

UN spokesperson the UN spokesman said on Monday that the GHF's shutdown would have "zero effect" on its operations "because we never worked with them".

He also said that while additional assistance was reaching the Palestinian territory since the halt in hostilities began on early October, it was "insufficient to address all necessities" of the 2.1 million population.
